The Mountain Safety Council are trialling a way of assessing ‘Equivalency’ as referred to in theEOTC guidelines but with the idea that if ‘Equivalency’ can be proven, the qualification should beawarded.
How does it work?
Candidates will need to attend two weekends in the Waitakere ranges:
Weekend 1: 9th/10th October 2010
You will be put through your paces and assessed on your current competency in all the requiredperformance indicators of the qualification.
At the end of the weekend candidates will be given a clear indication of what areas of training theyneed to bring them up to ODL standard.
Weekend 2: 20th/21st November 2010
This is the assessment weekend where the candidates get to demonstrate all the skills to ODLlevel.
Who is it for?
Anyone who believes they have the necessary skills and experience to pass the MSC certificate inOutdoor Leadership but have not necessarily attended all or any of the courses that lead up to thisqualification.
Typically you will be a highly skilled navigator and experienced tramper, with all the hard skillsnecessary for overnight tramps and also have some of the soft skills necessary to pass thisknowledge on to others.
It is perfect for busy Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award Coordinators’, Assessors and Supervisors.
What does it cost?
All costs associated with both weekends (travel food etc) are the candidates.
