DoC Auckland updates

For general information there is scheduled upgrade work in the Goldies Bush to start in May in a different part of the track to the upgrade work that has been going on for the past few months, please contact the Auckland VC and we will also send short note out as details come to us for this area.
There has been some wasp control work done in the Okura walkway area and on Rangitoto. Please contact the Auckland VC if you should see or have problems with wasps.
The planning for the pest and predator eradication on Rangitoto/Motutapu has been proceeding and there will be some short closures of the islands to the public during the winter. These will be weather dependant and dates will be announced shortly before hand and publicised in the papers as well.
With the potential spread of PTA (Kauri Dieback) and our pest/predator control we are increasing our education for Bio Security and you can assist us in passing the bio security message on to others who may not be as aware as yourselves.
Kiwi have just been released on 21 March on pest and predator free Motuihe Island. Further releases will take place later in the year bringing there numbers up to about forty birds. Kakariki have also been released earlier this year and last year on Motuihe Island
 
For outside of the Auckland Area would like to bring to your notice that there has been a Edition 3 limited revision 2008 Egmont Parkmap 273-09 issued. There has been some track closures and alteration around Holly hut, Stony River, Kahui Hut. So if you are planning trips to Egmont National Park, Mt Taranaki contact the North Egmont VC 06 756 0990 for full details
There has been a new Kamai-Mamaku Forest Park scale 1:50 000 map released to us this month (new cost is $19) replacing the old now out of date 2000 Edition. A larger format with much more information on it
We also have the newer Edition 2 2006 Coromandel Parkmap 336-11 scale 1:95 000 which incorporates the northern part of the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest park roughly down to Katikati
