April 1st - Shock report: John real club captain

AUTCTRUTH! has uncovered the shock revelation that John Deverall, captain in 2008, is in fact the real captain of Auckland University Tramping Club.
 
The revelation comes after an insider revealed that Rion Gulley, widely regarded as the 2009 captain of the tramping club regularly ‘holds court’ with John at his Grafton road Huia residence.
One insider, who declined to be named, revealed that John’s influence goes much further than merely advice. ‘John writes all of Rion’s emails, he writes his speeches, he even gets him to rehearse them.’ ‘John is also the chief strategist, and he is the real reason behind the success of the club this year’.
 
The insider went on to tell AUTCTRUTH! ‘John is the real brains behind the tramping club’ and that ‘Basically Rion is just the glamorous show pony’.
 
 It is believed that John likes Rion to perform a figure head role in order to conceal the true extent of his power. John Deverall was also the charismatic leader of a commune in Albany for some time, and is known to exercise dominion over the Perecomus recorder quartet.
 
‘John likes to work in the shadows, pulling the strings, then he can just be smiley, happy John in public life.’
 
The reasons for John’s power over Rion is partly attributed to the fact that Rion idolises John. ‘Once John gave Rion one of his old tramping socks. Rion was over the moon! He kept the sock with him at all times, and even slept with it under his pillow.’ ‘Rion sees John almost as a demi-god, and hangs off his every word.’ Whenever tramping club business needs to be attended to, it is believed that Rion will be summoned to John’s residence to do his bidding.
 
‘Everyone thinks that Wairiki road is where its at in the tramping club, but no, no, the real centre of power in the tramping club is at Huia residence, where John is.’
 
‘Yup, John is the puppet master alright, and Rion is just dangling helplessly from the strings.’
